Tomato Pay
Project overview
Tomato Pay is a revolutionary invoicing and instant payments solution powered by Open Banking that enables real time settlement of account-to-account bank transfers up to 94% cheaper and 95% faster than card or direct debit, removing the burden of cash, reducing the friction in clients payments, and offering stronger consumer fraud protection than currently exists online.
When I joined the company the product was at its MVP stage being a simple peer-to-peer payment app. Over the last year, my work has been focused on designing a mature application that allows users to rapidly create invoices on the go and collect payments from their customers through our own web checkout reducing payment frictions, late payments and improving merchants’ cash flow.

Initial findings
Most SMEs don’t have an accounting or invoicing system and bill their clients manually
Late payments lead to cash flow problems and affect small businesses growth.
50,000 businesses go into administration every year as their invoices are not paid in time.
Invoicing, banking and payments products/journeys are completely disconnected.
Sole traders think admin work takes up time they could use to complete actual work and find new clients
